Our recent pledgers

Wythenshawe Community Housing Group

The Housing Group pledged its support for the campaign in 2013. They are raising awareness of the issue and building sustainable action with the local community.

During the Week of Action our Real Food Wythenshawe team will:

  • Host a Big Breakfast Event in a marquee in Wythenshawe City Centre, giving people the opportunity to have a free breakfast to highlight that ‘one in seven children in Greater Manchester go to school hungry’
  • On the afternoon of the 16th October, between 2.00-4.00pm, host a Big Food Debate to talk about some of the issues around food in 2014 in Wythenshawe

Key achievements of our food poverty work include:

  • Running a Real Food ‘Grow it! Cook it! Eat it!’ programme which has recruited local volunteers to lead cooking and growing sessions and engaged thousands of local people
  • Supporting the food distribution charity FareShare to set up a hub and spoke model, doubling the amount of emergency food they are able to distribute in the area
  • Delivering a series of bespoke family cooking sessions for large families disproportionally impacted by welfare reform and training local volunteers
  • Working with a local food bank to develop recipe cards, cooking samples on site and providing each customer with the ingredients to cook the recipe and tips on cooking
  • Leading a funding bid to enable the opening in 2015 of a food education centre which will link emergency food distribution with signposting, cooking skills and anti-poverty work
