Shoosmiths LLP

Shoosmiths gears up to support the week of action with DuPaul UK.

Shoosmiths pledged its support for the campaign after Kellogg’s hosted a food poverty event in summer 2013.

Corporate Responsibility forms part of the Shoosmiths three year business plan and with the selection of Depaul UK as Manchester’s local charity partner 2014/2015 employees are hoping to use their skills and resources to good effect during and beyond the week of action.

This includes:

  • Highlighting the campaign to colleagues via team briefs and office partner meetings and Shoosmiths Corporate Responsibility blog Shoutback.
  • Undertaking an office collection of needed food items to support Depaul UK’s work in the Manchester area as it helps young people aged 16 to 25 who are homeless, vulnerable or disadvantaged.
  • In partnership with Depaul UK gathering recipes to be shared with young people in hostels and as they make their way to independent living.

Ideas have been requested for tasty, wholesome and cheap recipes to be included in a booklet which will be distributed across Depaul UK’s network. Shoosmiths staff will also get the opportunity to visit one of the local hostels to teach their recipes.

Shoosmiths Manchester Head of Office, Harold Brako will be ‘sleeping out’ with other senior managers later in October to highlight the plight of the homeless.

Karen Fletcher explains, ‘We are delighted to be associated with the campaign and to use our connections to help publicise its goals. Depaul UK for example has been approached by organisations that would like to work with the charity and is also arranging for some of the young people it is helping to visit Kellogg’s head office to learn about nutrition.

Shelley Green Corporate Partnerships Account Manager at Depaul UK added ‘Thanks again for connecting us with the campaign, it will provide some fantastic opportunities and we are really excited by the direct impact these will have on our young people.
